I am a post-doctoral fellow in the Biochemical Genetics Laboratory at UCSD. The laboratory has been diagnosing inborn errors of metabolism for over 40 years, using a variety of methods including mass spectrometry to measure absolute concentrations of a variety of metabolites related to metabolic disease. I have worked in this laboratory to adapt new methods that take advantage of new high resolution and high mass accuracy mass spectrometers that enable the laboratory to perform untargeted metabolomics experiments in addition to quantitating existing panels of metabolites. These new methods have enabled us to observe a more global view of metabolic changes in IEM's, as well as in response to drug therapies.
