Alan Saghatelian
The Salk Institute

Alan Saghatelian grew up in Southern California and attended UCLA as a chemistry major. Undergraduate research in organic synthesis got him interested in graduate school and he obtained his PhD from The Scripps Research Institute in the area of Chemical Biology. Alan stayed at Scripps for his postdoctoral fellowship with Dr. Ben Cravatt and while in the Cravatt lab Alan worked with Gary Siuzdak to develop a lipidomics platform for the identification of endogenous enzyme substrates. In 2006, after completing his postdoc, Alan began his independent position as an assistant professor in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Harvard University. Last year Alan moved back to the west coast as a Professor at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in La Jolla.
