May 26, 2018 We recently became aware of a medical mass spectrometrist (MMS) certification program, established in 2013 by the Japanese Society for Biomedical Mass Spectrometry (JSBMS), via a submitted abstract for MSACL 2018 EU. The JSBMS MMS program teaches the basic principles of MS, possible and potential applications of MS for laboratory medicine and the advantages and the challenges of MS-based methods as compared with the conventional methods. The participants have to pass an exam at the end of the intensive course to be certified as a MMS. This has stimulated some reflection within MSACL about the existence of certification programs, in general, and what we can do to help develop them. To this end, we are planning a discussion group on Clinical Mass Spectrometry certification programs at the MSACL 2018 EU congress, but we are hoping to get a better understanding of the landscape of clinical mass spectrometry certification programs so we can structure the discussion with some knowledge of the current environment. This is where you can help. If you are aware of any Clinical Mass Spectrometry certification programs, it would be appreciated if you could let us know. |
