Mass spectrometric assays are “Lab-Developed” tests that laboratory scientists need to learn how to develop. This workshop will present a systematic approach to sample preparation and LC-MS/MS optimization of compounds, including scanning analytes in full spectrum mode, selection of the precursor mass, optimization of the collision energy and choosing the fragments.

The second section of the workshop will cover on-line sample preparation and multiplexing. We will present three examples of clinical applications in the areas of newborn screening, endocrinology, and toxicology. We will also briefly present the necessary validation protocol for mass spectrometric assays in the clinical laboratory.
