Lipoproteins lie at the center of lipid metabolism. New research suggests they have a role in inflammation and the innate immune system. Our laboratory has shown that several proteins are enriched and depleted from high density lipoproteins (HDL) in subjects with coronary artery disease. Using a targeted proteomic approach, we demonstrate that obesity and insulin resistance lead to important changes in the levels of clusterin in HDL and non-HDL particles.
