Exposures to nerve agents and sulfur mustard remain a threat to both civilian and military populations. Low level exposures are often difficult to detect and require sensitive and specific analytical methods. Methods for exposure verification are focused on analysis of biomarkers resulting from interactions of the parent agent with biological matrices. Such interactions produce metabolites and stable adducts formed from covalent binding of the parent agent to macromolecular entities. This presentation will focus on efforts in this laboratory aimed at the development and optimization of mass spectrometric based methods for the analysis of biomarkers resulting from exposure.
