Accurate measurements of adrenal steroids are critical for diagnosis of common endocrinopathies. Many current immunoassay methods lack sensitivity, accuracy, and precision critical for clinical diagnosis. In addition, the volume of sera needed for measuring each hormone separately may restrict clinical and research applications. We have developed an accurate and precise LCMSMS method for measuring the 6 adrenal steroids concurrently using 100mcl of serum without the need for derivatization. This method can be used for diagnosis of androgen excess in women and for establishing a diagnostic screen test for babies with congenital hyperplasia using blood spots on filter paper.
