View Long Abstract
Proficiency testing (PT) is often viewed as an impediment to getting the job done, to getting samples analyzed, and to keeping the cash flowing. Rarely is PT viewed as a critical tool for evaluating the quality of an analysis from either the laboratory or the diagnostic perspective. Properly designed and implemented PT can be used to not only measure relative performance of participating laboratories but also method performance. Examples of creative use of PT data will be cited from the Laboratory Response Network proficiency testing program.
