View Long Abstract
Human osteocalcin (Oc) or bone – Gla protein is a noncollagenous bone matrix protein of 49 amino acid residues (5798.5 MH+). Here we present Mass Spectrometric Immunoassay (MSIA) data describing the isolation and identification of multiple, previously undocumented truncated fragments of Oc from human plasma and serum samples of healthy, renal failure and congestive heart failure patients. Several of the identified truncated fragments of Oc showed evidence of glutamine cyclization (Q4) to pyroglutamic acid at the N-terminus. The results offer insight into the biological relevancy of truncated Oc and provide direction for future research into Oc as a marker of disease.
