View Long Abstract
Many cases referred to Poison Control Centers (PCC) by emergency departments involve unexplained clinical toxicity from unknown drug(s) or drug metabolite(s). The primary challenge in responding to these calls is the lack of historical information to narrow down analytical testing to a target group of analytes. The current developments in the accuracy, sensitivity, and speed of LC-MS/TOF have allowed this analytical platform to respond to this challenge. We highlight several cases referred by the San Francisco PCC for which analytical results obtained from serum LC-MS/TOF targeted and non-targeted drug analysis made an impact in patient management in real time.
