View Long Abstract
Metabolites produced by colon bacteria accumulate in patients with kidney failure and may contribute to uremic toxicity. To identify such solutes, a cohort of hemodialysis patients with end stage renal disease (ESRD) and removed colon was studied. An LC/MS (benchtop Exactive Orbitrap) metabolomics study of plasma samples from ESRD patients with or without colon revealed uremic solutes specifically produced by colon bacteria. Data analysis revealed 56 features significantly different between the groups. The identities of 27 features were tentatively determined using accurate mass database search; MSn identification using Orbitrap Velos is to follow.
