View Long Abstract
In this study we compared cancer tissue and healthy epithelium/or stroma of the cervix from patients with cervical cancer by laser microdissection of ~2500 cells as well as serum samples from early stage cancer patients versus healthy controls. Statistical analysis resulted in a number of peptides that were more abundant in tumor cells versus normal epithelial cells as well as in serum from cancer patients versus serum from healthy controls. Potential biomarker candidates were followed up by immunoblotting and immunohistochemistry. We are currently validating these candidates in a large number of serum samples by tandem mass spectrometry (multiple reaction monitoring).
