View Long Abstract
Detection of Salmonella applying routine procedures takes at least 2 days. A novel approach was developed combining a selective culture with the mass spectrometry based MALDI Biotyper. This procedure delivers the results already the day after culturing. For validation the method was applied to routine samples in comparison to the standard procedure over a time frame of 6 months. 3533 samples were analyzed revealing Salmonella positive samples. 46 of these were identified from the Hectoen agar streak. Another 22 were identified from the selenite culture. Only three positive samples was not found before plating of the selenite culture.
