View Long Abstract
The goal of this project was the identification of dose-related protein biomarkers of ionizing radiation (IR), specifically, biomarkers of the 2 Gy threshold dose for radiation sickness, and similar markers of the metal elements: iron, copper, zinc, phosphorous, and calcium. Mass spectrometry, both imaging MALDI and LCMS were the discovery tools used for proteins. Ion conductance plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) was the discovery tool used for the metal elements.
