To date there has not been an evaluation of the molecular weight range excluded from binding to the stationary phase of a turbulent flow column using typical conditions that are practiced in the field. In a biological matrix, the primary matrix interferences observed in LC/MS methodologies are due to matrix proteins. Therefore, the on-line separation of proteins in the biological matrix from the analytes of interest is the goal of performing turbulent flow chromatography. An experiment was conducted to evaluate the affect that the molecular weight of a protein has on its exclusion by turbulent flow chromatography (TFC).
