Liquid extraction surface analysis combined with nano-electrospray mass-spectrometry (LESA-nESI-MS) is a complementary analytical approach to other surface-analysis MS methods such as MALDI MS, DESI and DART. Whole body thin animal slices studies may be directly sampled and profiled by nano ESI MS for drugs and their metabolites in the animal's organs. LESA-MS/MS can detect and characterize phase II drug metabolites in addition to the parent drug. This presentation will overview the LESA technique with different examples of surface analysis including thin tissue samples, TLC plates and dried blood spots.
