View Long Abstract
Childhood lead poisoning is an ongoing environmental health concern affecting cognitive development and behavior in children. Automation in conjunction with ICP-MS is used to determine lead levels from filter paper dried blood spots in an effort to increase lead screening in children. Kansas Health and Environmental Laboratories (KHEL) developed a method to determine lead levels extracted from filter paper blood spots using automated sample preparation followed by ICP-MS analysis. A detailed look into this method will show ICP-MS is a fast and efficient technique for the detection of lead levels in children.
