DUHS Clinical Laboratory is seeking a motivated Analytical Specialist to join the Mass Spectrometry Division of the Central Clinical Laboratory. This position will oversee the technical, operation, QC/QA, and test development of the Mass Spectrometry testing. The current test menu includes immunosuppressive drugs, antifungal drugs, and drug testing for pain management. The candidate should have prior knowledge and experience with LC-MS/MS for implementation in a clinical laboratory setting. Knowledge of CAP requirements for this methodology is preferred.
The Analytical Specialist will join a highly collaborative mass spectrometry team to drive the team's progression through the following duties:
Researches, organizes, and implements new assays and high-throughput solutions under the direction of the Technical Director.
Leads the design, development, optimization, and delivery of integrated mass spectrometry-based high throughput clinical testing instruments.
Assists with guidance and coordination of personnel, equipment, and supplies.
Assesses and evaluates the design and performance characteristics of new mass spectrometry instrumentation and equipment for use in the clinical testing production environment.
The operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of mass spectrometry instrumentation.
Manages multiple projects within timelines according to high scientific and ethical standards.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Working knowledge of routine and specialized procedures and tests in specified area of specialty (e.g. Serology, Special Hematology, Anaerobic Bacteriology, Blood Banking)
Monitor testing to ensure that acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained. Check personnel to as sure competence prior to test reporting. All aspects of Proficiency testing are properly followed, reviewed and remedial actions are taken and documented following failures. Quality assurance and Quality Control prog rams are established, maintained and are effective in identifying problems. Procedure manuals are available and have been reviewed annually by director, manager, supervisor or analytical specialist. Responsibilities delegated from the director or technical supervisor include: Assure remedial action is taken and documented whenever tests systems deviate from established performance specifications. Ensure that patient testing results are not reported until corrective action has been taken and the test system is functioning properly. Participate in the annual evaluation, competency testing and documentation for all testing personnel Receive, review and prepare technical reports reflecting volume of work, procedures utilized and test results; coordinate the preparation of reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate corrective action. Assist in the annual validation of the Electronic Laboratory Manual.
Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related field.
Three to five years of laboratory experience required to gain specific knowledge of routine and specialized procedures and tests in specified area of specialty (e.g., Serology, Special Hematology, Anaerobic Bacteriology).
Degrees, Licensures, Certifications
Certification in Medical Technology by a nationally recognized agency/board and/or in the specialized field of the assigned Lab. Assignment in Transfusion Service requires certification as Specialist in Blood Banking (SBB).
