Job description: The Greenwood Genetic Center has an immediate opening for a mass spectrometry specialist. The position will focus on assay development and measurement of metabolites associated with diagnosis and treatment of human genetic disorders within a clinical laboratory setting. Assay development and quality management will follow either CAP or FDA guidelines. Additional responsibilities include general maintenance of MS/MS technology, curation of data for submission to project sponsors and/or FDA and the development and submission of peer-reviewed manuscripts for his/her work.

Greenwood Genetic Center (GGC):
GGC is a nonprofit institution founded in 1974 providing clinical genetic services, diagnostic laboratory testing, educational programs and research in the field of medical genetics. The primary research and testing focus is on intellectual disabilities, autism and birth defects. GGC’s faculty and staff are committed to the goal of developing and providing preventive and curative therapies for the individuals and families they serve.

The mass spectrometry specialist will work within GGC’s clinical biochemical genetics laboratory which is CLIA licensed and CAP accredited. The laboratory focuses on the diagnosis and management of inborn errors of metabolism with expertise in the diagnosis of lysosomal storage disorders and the integration of metabolomics into clinical practice.

Educational Experience Required: Experience with quantitative measurement of organic compounds using UPLC-MS/MS is required. Candidates having additional experience within a clinical laboratory setting are preferred. B.S. degree is required; M.S. or Ph.D. degree is preferred.
