Sheerin Shahidi-Latham (Presenter)
Genentech, Inc.

Bio: Sheerin K. Shahidi-Latham is a Scientist and the Metabolomics/Imaging MS Group Leader in the Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics department at Genentech. Her responsibilities include oversight of bioanalytical assay method development and validation in support of drug discovery and development. Additionally, Sheerin leads the metabolomics core facility and imaging MS group which support biomarker discovery and in situ analyses of drug, metabolites, and endogenous components via assays developed on high-resolution MS platforms. Her lab currently has several instrumentation, including two QToFs and two FTMS high resolution systems. Sheerin earned a Ph.D. in Bioanalytical Chemistry from Vanderbilt University under the tutelage of Professor Richard M. Caprioli. She has presented at numerous conferences/symposia and has authored several publications on the utility of tissue imaging by MS.

Short Abstract

This seminar will provide an overview of label-free high resolution mass spectrometric applications in support of drug discovery and development. Examples will include imaging MALDI MS of dosed tissues in support of effective drug delivery evaluations, highlighting the accurate mass approach for the simultaneous detection of drug and metabolites, and additionally the detection of endogenous components that provide a means for simultaneous PK/PD assessments while retaining spatial resolution. A synopsis of the advantages of high-resolution mass spectrometry, as well as, the technical challenges and opportunities in the context of the pharmaceutical industry will be discussed.
