Advancing Quality, Consistency, and Throughput in GC/LC-MS/MS LDTs: A Laboratory Case Study with Gravity Diagnostics
Jim Edwards
Indigo BioAutomation

Summary

As a critical participant in the delivery of better patient health and outcomes, clinical laboratories are under increasing pressure to improve quality, consistency, throughput, and regulatory readiness. For labs performing moderate- to high-complexity testing using GC/LC-MS/MS, the challenge also includes the continual awareness and advancement of assay performance as well as, for many, an increasing menu of test offerings. These tests, and the release of high-quality chromatography and mass spectrometry results at a high operational tempo with high confidence requires the active coordination of several agents and systems in the laboratory.

In this workshop, Jim Edwards, EVP and CPO for Indigo BioAutomation, and Nick Lyktey, Chief of Laboratory Operations for Gravity Diagnostics, will share best practices, key learnings and results achieved, including a 10x expansion in sample volume and up to 75% reduction in review and release time, in the deploying of ASCENT as a primary analytical operations system for Gravity’s large panel toxicology workflow. Viewed as an important lever to support Gravity’s substantial growth while delivering on quality, customer service and turnaround priorities, the session will describe the onboarding, training, and change management activities deployed to integrate ASCENT into their work practices and foster organizational adoption and engagement. Jim and Nick will also cover the logistical steps, including validation, that were critical to implementation and will highlight the ASCENT features most important to Gravity’s workflow and to enabling an environment of continuous improvement with ongoing assay and workflow optimization across users and instruments.
