Places to Eat

During the Short Courses, you will have an opportunity to take lunch and dinner offsite at the venue of your choice on Monday, September 22.

During the Conference, Wednesday evening, September 24, is another opportunity to experience the food scene in Montréal, ideally with new friends you have met at MSACL.

Note that MSACL does not organize or sponsor the cost of these meals.

To filter Montréal restaurants by location, cuisine and price range, please refer to this Montréal Guide.

Foodies - the Michelin Guide recommends 12 restaurants within a 20 minute walk.

Or check this MSACL Food Map which includes nearby establishments that have been recommended. The house icon represents the location of Hotel Bonaventure.

MSACL Staff recommendations:

  • Monday Lunch: CathCart : A short 7 minute walk from the conference center, Le CathCart offers an elevated food court with something for everyone. This is a great option for larger groups and provides a pleasant atmosphere.
  • Monday & Wednesday Dinner:
    1. TimeOut Market : 10 minute walk (700m), this is a unique food hall, perfect for sampling some of the best foodie options Montréal has to offer. Only the best chefs and restaurants in Montréal are invited to join this one-stop-shop for a taste of the city. Don't let it's location inside a shopping mall deter you. Excellent choice for large groups.
    2. Restaurant Bonaparte : 20 minute walk (1.4km). If you want to visit Vieux-Montréal (Old Montreal), Drs. Vuckovic and Borchers both recommend this French restaurant. Private room for up to 20 available.
    3. Sesame : 13 min walk (950m). Casual, affordable, nice ambiance, tasty asian fusion.
    4. Monarque : 12 min walk (900m). Need a reservation. Choose the Brasserie for a more casual table, select the Dining room for a more formal experience. Unpretentious atmosphere, bright and inviting with a view into the kitchen to watch the action. Private room for up to 32 available.
    5. Kyo Bar : 19 min walk (1.3km) or 2 metro stops. Japanese. Upscale sushi bar and restaurant.
    6. Jardin Nelson : 27 min walk (1.9km) or 3 metro stops. Very Touristic in the heart of the Old Town. Come here for live Jazz music (all day) in a casual outdoor patio setting accommodating a lot of people (max 6 people per table) and does not take reservations. The food is not remarkable but satisfying.

If you are with a big group, you can continue the evening around the corner at BreWsky a large beer hall and pub food establishment with both indoor and patio seating and an extensive selection of beers. The Patio on Rue Commune (closest to the river) has views of the old port and the ferris wheel. Open till midnight.
    7. Hiatus : 7 min walk. Come here for the view, perched on the top floor (43rd) of a tall building with 360 degree views of Montréal, if you are feeling spendy, want an elevated menu, and elbow room. There is a private room that can be reserved for a group.

If you would like to experience the view without the fancy meal, consider stopping in for drinks at the bar before heading down for dinner nearby at Les Enfantes Terribles. Or try the biergarden at Le CathCart.
