Educational Travel Grant Information

Educational Travel Grants support the conference attendance of individuals who are generally early in their career and (1) have a strong potential for meaningful contribution, as determined by their submitted abstract and Grant application, or (2) are on track to lead a clinical laboratory and are interested in learning more about the pros and cons of mass spectrometry versus conventional methodologies.

Young Investigator Travel Grant

Abstract Submission Required.

This grant is for individuals submitting abstracts on clinical mass spectrometry for either oral or poster presentations. Grants are targeted for the support of MD/residents/fellows, PhD students, post-docs, and young faculty members (less than 4 years since appointment).

This grant will cover:

  • Airfare: Up to $500 outside of North America ONLY.
  • Airfare: Up to $300 within North America if selected to speak from the podium.
  • Shared hotel room (Grantee may pay half to Upgrade to PRIVATE room)
  • Short Course Registration
  • Conference Registration (includes most meals).

Trainee Travel Grant

Abstract Submission NOT Required.

This grant is for MD/Residents/Fellows, PhD students, Post-docs and young faculty members (less than 4 years since appointment) who are in training to direct a clinical Lab and are interested in acquiring a greater understanding of the value of mass spectrometry as a tool for use in the clinical laboratory setting.

This grant will cover:

  • Airfare: Up to $500 outside of North America ONLY.
  • Shared Hotel Room (Grantee may pay half of room costs to Upgrade to PRIVATE room)
  • Short Course Registration
  • Conference Registration (includes most meals).

Lab Director Travel Grant

Abstract Submission NOT Required.

What are my chances? 6 Grants made in 2014 US from 35 Applications.

This grant is for current Clinical Lab Directors who are aiming to get a better understanding of what mass spectrometry can do for their lab. The grant is targeted to those Lab Directors who have had minimal mass spec exposure, but all may apply.

This grant will cover:

  • Airfare: Up to $500 outside of North America ONLY.
  • PRIVATE Hotel Room
  • Short Course Registration
  • Conference Registration (includes most meals).


Grant Requirements

Obligations of Grantees:

  • Arrive before 3 PM Saturday.
  • Depart after 2 PM Wednesday.
  • Attendance at networking receptions and/or lunches.
  • Attendance at conference through Wednesday.

Details of Covered Expenses

Meeting Registration:
Full conference registration as well as registration for (a) one two-day short course, (b) one one-day short course or (c) two one-day short courses is included.

Accommodations:
MSACL will book your rooms for you after you specify your arrival and departure dates.

  • Young Investigators &Trainees: Accommodations will be provided on a shared basis for a maximum of 6 nights (2 people per room). If grant recipient does not wish to share a room, recipient has the option to cover half of the cost of the hotel room to attain a private room. If recipient is traveling from outside of North America, up to 7 nights of a shared hotel room will be provided.

  • Lab Directors: Private rooms will be provided for a maximum of 6 nights if traveling within North America or 7 nights if traveling from outside of North America.

Airfare:
MSACL has the option to cover flight costs up to $500 for travelers originating outside of North America, and within North America up to $300 for Young Investigators if they are selected to present their work from the podium.

Airfare Reimbursement: Please submit ticket receipts to chris.herold@msacl.org for reimbursement.

Grantees must arrive by ~3PM Saturday and depart after ~2PM Wednesday for flight costs to be covered.

Other:
Travel grants do not include a per-diem for food, rental car reimbursement or other expenses. The conference provides most meals as part of registration.
